FA3 120mm Little Wing Jicarilla Apache 1850 £31.50
While sharing the same origins, language, religion and ceremonies with the other Apachean tribes, the Jicarilia adopted the Plains buffalo~hunting lifestyle. They looked like most Plains people, with their tipis, their braided hair, and their buckskin clothing handsomely adorned with fine beadwork. They had frequent contact with the neighbouring Ute and in several occasionsjoined the people of Taos Puebio in theirwars against the Comanche and the Kiowa. Ute and Puebio as well as Kiowa and Southern Cheyenne influences are noticeable in their clothing along with the Jicarilia's own contributions like the beaded cape, the wide leather belt and the distinctive hairstyle. Like the other Apachean people, the Jicarilia - whose name comes from the Spanish word for 'little basket'- were renown-ed for their expertise in basketry. Even today, Jicarilia coiled baskets are considered to be among the finest in the Southwest.
