THE SENGOKU-DAIMYO, the warlords of the Ages of Wars, started as successful warriors who went on to found petty kingdoms of their own, which they defended with armies of samurai who allegiance to them and none other. During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries (the Sengoku Period), over 250 daimyo controlled Japan's provinces. From a military standpoint the daimyo was a warrior, a commander and the focus for unwavering loyalty. He was also a founder of dynasties, a keepr of the peace and a great patron and practioner of the arts.
