The Landsknecht was allegedly the most colourful figure to come out of the Renaissance wars. Originally created at the end of the 15th century by Maximilian I to counter the (then) invincible Swiss infantry, this well organised and formidable mercenary force rapidly developed a strong reputation on the battlefields and ended up in the service of the major European courts. The 15-part resin figure depicts a ‘double-pay’ soldier in marching order, dressed in the typical slashed clothing and half-armour ’.
