X0-08 120mm Le Mousquetaire du Roy 1622 £34.35
The historical facts behind the popular characters created by Alexandre Dumas were, for once, as colourful and exciting as the fiction. Created in 1622 by Louis XIII and recruited among France’s finest nobility, the Musketeers served as the King’s close protection and also as an army unit in military campaigns. Fighting on horseback and on foot, the Musketeers earned their reputation on the European battlefields and soon enough, their famous blue cassock with the silver cross became a symbol of bravery and panache. The PiLiPiLi figure is based on engravings by Maurice Leloir (1851-1940) who was, according to Dumas enthusiasts, the best and most authentic illustrator of The Three Musketeers. Leloir was also a specialist on 17th-century European costume. The finely-detailed resin figure comprises 22 parts – including the period stool – and depicts a musketeer of the Louis XIII household in a typically defiant pose.
